We can’t wait to meet our 2018 summer staff! The 9 summer staff positions are naturalist, crafts leader, lifeguard, grounds/maintenance, music leader, office, and all-round/media. We also are looking for someone to catalogue the species of snakes at Camp Mennoscah. Volunteer positions for counseling, kitchen staff, and maintenance/custodial are also available on a weekly or summer-long basis.
Summer staff qualifications include the following: agreement with the Camp Mennoscah mission and vision statements, ability to relate well with campers and staff of all ages, capability to make sound decisions, a strong work ethic, flexibility in all situations and calm in emergencies, and the ability to have fun. Summer staff must be 18 years old or older, preferably with at least one completed year of college or work/volunteering.
Our 2018 summer camp season runs from June 3 to August 12. Actual summer camps begin June 10. Summer staff is expected to be available for all weeks/days unless advance arrangements are made. This includes the work days after summer camps are officially over. There is often one week during the summer where reduced staff is needed. Staff will be scheduled according to programming needs. Weekend hours are rotated among staff.
The 9 summer staffers are paid a volunteer stipend in the amount of $225 per camp week, regardless of the length of the camp week. The week with a Pre-Junior camp and First Camp is considered one camp week, even if the camps fall on two different calendar weeks. If staff leave early or make arrangements to be gone for any stretch of time during a camp week, the volunteer stipend may be less than $225 for that week. Orientation, all extra work days, and workdays following the end of the summer youth camps also receive a volunteer stipend based on time worked. The position for snake cataloguing is a summer-long position, receives meals and lodging, but not a stipend, and requires the same paperwork and background check as all camp staff.
Summer staff and summer-long positions must have their own health/medical insurance. Room and board is provided. Summer staff is responsible for having and maintaining all certifications as required for their position.
We welcome you to fill out the application form at the links above and below. Your application will then be reviewed by Camp Mennoscah staff and an interview may be requested. It may be several weeks after we receive your application before the application process is completed. Hiring decisions will begin February 9, but applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. Positions are expected to be announced around March 15. We suggest application forms be turned in as soon as possible for the best opportunities.
Please contact us with questions about the summer staff positions or the process. We look forward to receiving your application and talking with you.
