Jerry Kroeker has been hired as the new executive director at Camp Mennoscah. He currently is the executive director at Swan Lake and will gradually pick up more responsibilities at Camp Mennoscah as their Retreat Center project is completed. Check out what Swan Lake has been doing. http://www.myslcc.com/
Camp Mennoscah has three signs. One is at the end of Murdock Avenue, one at the end of the township (dirt) road, and one is at the end of the camp driveway. Camp staff noticed–as likely many of you did, too–that the sign at Murdock Avenue was looking a bit disheveled. Letters were beginning to tip sideways and the chains were pulling through the rotten boards. Mike Doerksen offered to make us a new sign and we think it’s snazzy. And great. Best of all, folks are again reassured that there are only three short miles to Camp Mennoscah.

We’re beginning to think and prepare for cold days at Camp Mennoscah and, though we haven’t had any snow, we did get a bit of practice with drifting. The winds in September were dramatic and timed to blow through when the fields around the township road were empty. (Those drifts are deeper than they look.) At the time, the weather was warm enough to have a beach-like feel, so we’ll be able to think back on “Murdock Beach” as we shovel our way through snow this winter.
Want to keep that good old camp feeling? Check out this article by Marlene Bogard, Western District Conference Minister of Christian Formation, for ideas and activities.
Take time to be with your family and friends of all ages–from young to old. We think Camp Mennoscah is the place to be to rest, relax and have fun. Family Camp this year is led by Ruth Harder, pastor at Rainbow Mennonite Church, and Jesse Graber, her husband and brilliant artist. (Jesse designs our tee shirts.) There will be a treasure hunt, swimming, a contra dance, and so much more! Check out the brochure or call us at 620-297-3290 for more information.
Camp Mennoscah will be having adventures and helping campers and staff find their true selves in Jesus in just a few weeks! In the river, in friends, in ourselves, we will seek to find God’s voice in new and unexpected ways. We’re shutting down the computers, turning off those cell phones, spending time away from the noise and electronic frenzy, and getting real.
