Camp Report: Pre-Junior 1, June 11-15

by Tammy Duvanel Unruh

June 19, 2023

Program Directors Chris Reisen and John Regier were in charge this week - the first week of Pre-Junior Camp at Camp Mennoscah 2023. The camp took place from Sunday, June 11 to Thursday, June 15.  51 campers took part in the week and tried their hands at a variety of activities, Sarah Neher provided input for the sessions, featuring lessons and sessions about the Fruit of the Spirit!

Camper Ruby from Newton, when asked about the best part of the week, at first remained unable to choose, claiming that “All of it” was the best part of camp this year. When prompted a bit more by her dad, she said, “Campfire - that was the best!” Camper Ben from Lincoln, NE, held out for swimming as the best thing of the week. Swimming is always a highlight, and so is River Play, rec time, music, and crafts - and they did them all in nice, not too hot weather.

Pre-Juniors are campers that are going into grades 4 and 5 in the fall. The week is a little shorter by design to help accommodate some anxious parents about an entire week away from their kids and to keep kids from becoming overly tired. Sarah commented, ‘This is an age that is really fun. They are enthusiastic about the smallest thing - and they really are able to listen and focus.”

It was a pleasure to have the Pre-Junior 1 camp at Camp Mennoscah!

As I write this, the First Campers are arriving soon, this afternoon,  for their camp, June 15-17. Check the Camp Mennoscah page on Facebook for lots of pictures of PJ1 and lots of pictures to come of First Camp.  If I had to choose, I might choose all of them. . . .

And watch this space for more Camp Reports as the summer continues.
